Starting with private transport from Valencia city, you’ll travel comfortably to one of the former power centers of the ancient Kingdom of Valencia. During your ride your local guide will chat with you about the smaller city’s importance, especially in Moorish times. Upon arrival, Xàtiva’s dramatic past comes to life — from Hanibal’s passing through, Roman dominance, Moorish times and the rise of the influential Borgia (Borja) family to the battles and legends that shaped this fortified town. Explore the impressive Xàtiva Castle, stretching across a mountain ridge with panoramic views over the valleys and citrus groves. Walk through towers, medieval walls, cisterns, and courtyards while hearing stories of kings, conquerors.
Continue into Xàtiva’s charming old town, to discover noble palaces, among which the Borgia popes were born, and step inside the collegiate church, as big as a cathedral, but never earned that title. You will also see a 15th century hospital and an impressive collection of art, with famous Ribera and Goya paintings, along with Felipe V’s upside down portrait. Why?
