Our journey south from Valencia takes us through rolling hills, orange groves, and picturesque villages, offering glimpses of rural life and the sparkling Mediterranean coast along the way. In just under two hours, we arrive in Guadalest, a charming historic village perched dramatically atop a rocky valley. Known for its castle ruins, whitewashed houses, and stunning views of the Guadalest reservoir, the village is a feast for the senses and a highlight of the Costa Blanca region.
We begin by wandering through Guadalest’s cobbled streets and quaint squares, exploring local artisan shops and discovering the town’s fascinating history. Your guide will bring the past to life, sharing stories of medieval fortresses, Moorish influences, and the strategic importance of this hilltop stronghold. The castle ruins, perched above the village, offer panoramic views over the reservoir and surrounding mountains — a perfect spot for photographs and to soak in the scenery.
Around midday, we pause for a relaxed lunch at a local restaurant, enjoying regional specialties such as paella, grilled seafood, or Valencian rice dishes, accompanied by a glass of local wine. It’s the perfect moment to rest, refuel, and take in the spectacular surroundings.
In the afternoon, we continue the adventure with a visit to the Algar Waterfalls, where crystal-clear freshwater cascades over limestone cliffs into natural pools. Here, we can stroll along shaded pathways, enjoy the sound of rushing water, and take in the lush greenery of the surrounding valley. This refreshing natural setting provides a perfect contrast to the historic hilltop village, making the day both relaxing and invigorating.
As the day draws to a close, we return to Valencia with a deeper appreciation of one of Spain’s most scenic regions, complete with stunning landscapes, historic towns, and Mediterranean charm.

- Please note that this tour involves some uphill walking/uneven terrain in pedestrianized areas, and we regret that it may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility.
- The price of lunch is not included in the tour cost (to allow for flexibility) and will need to be paid directly to the restaurant on the day. We would be delighted to help organize lunch for you at a local restaurant within your preferred budget. If you like, your guide can accompany you to assist with translating and ordering, or you can meet your guide after your meal has finished.
