After just under two hours, we arrive at the Valltorta Gorge and Prehistoric Museum, one of Spain’s most important sites of ancient cave art and a designated UNESCO World Heritage location. Here, we explore the Valltorta Museum, where exhibits and interactive displays reveal how early humans lived, hunted, and painted on the valley’s limestone cliffs more than 7,000 years ago. Your guide will bring the era to life through stories of survival and artistry, before we continue into the gorge itself to see the prehistoric rock shelters, where remarkable red ochre hunting scenes still decorate the stone — delicate, vivid, and astonishingly well preserved.

After this immersive journey into the distant past, we enjoy a relaxing lunch at a local restaurant, where traditional dishes and regional wines highlight the flavors of Castellón’s inland countryside.

In the afternoon, we travel south to Vall d’Uixó, a historic town framed by the Sierra de Espadán mountains and home to one of Spain’s most extraordinary natural wonders — the Caves of San Josep. Here begins a truly magical experience: a boat ride along Europe’s longest navigable underground river, gliding through ethereal caverns carved by time. As you drift beneath vaulted rock ceilings and through softly illuminated chambers, your guide will share stories of how the caves were once home to prehistoric Iberian peoples and later became a sanctuary of wonder for modern explorers. • The caves maintain a comfortable temperature of 19–20ºC year-round, so a light jacket is recommended. Between each cave, our boat passes through narrow tunnels that require bending your neck. Guests with back issues or taller individuals may find this a bit uncomfortable.
