Hilltop views, a Royal Monastery & seaside charm

Duration: 3.5-4 hours
Location: El Puig
Availability: The Royal Monastery is not open on Sundays or Mondays.
Come with us just minutes north of Valencia to El Puig, a true Valencian town with sweeping coastal views from its famous hilltop. El Puig is one of the nicest residential towns for a half-day tour from Valencia, whose castle remains reminds us of the many medieval legends of the beginning of the Kingdom of Valencia.
After departing Valencia, you’ll drive a scenic route up the coast, passing the Mediterranean and open farmlands toward this charming hilltop village. On arrival, we will walk up to the remains of the Castillo del Puig, the strategic lookout point from where King Jaume I launched the conquest of Valencia in the 1238. At the top, take in panoramic views of the sea, citrus groves and the Valencian plains.
Stroll back down into the town to visit the 13th-century Royal Monastery of Santa María del Puig, birthplace of one of Valencia’s most enduring legends. Inside, discover the highlights of this vast Gothic-Renaissance complex: serene cloisters, historic halls, and the sanctuary that houses the miraculous medieval image of the Virgin, patroness saint of the old Kingdom of Valencia, miraculously found on the hilltop.
To finish, we will drive the short distance to the quiet and untouristy coastal promenade here, where we treat you to a coffee or refreshing drink by the beach before returning to Valencia. On the drive back, enjoy the scenery as you pass through orange groves, traditional farmhouses, and quiet rural landscapes; the perfect ending to a short escape from the city.
