Learn the methods, motifs, and meaning of Spain’s ceramic traditions—then paint your own

Duration: 1.5 hours
Location: Spain Memories – Benimaclet, Valencia
Discover the beauty of Spanish craftsmanship in this hands-on ceramics painting workshop in Valencia, held in the artistic neighborhood of Benimaclet. Inside our peaceful indoor garden space inspired by a traditional huerto valenciano, a local artist will guide you through the fascinating history of Spanish and Valencian ceramics, explaining centuries of symbolism, patterns, colors, and meanings found in pottery across the Iberian Peninsula.
You’ll learn how different eras — Moorish, Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, and Modernist — influenced the iconic motifs still used today. From geometric arabesques and Mediterranean florals to protective symbols, family emblems, and agricultural designs, you’ll understand the stories behind the ceramic pieces you see throughout Valencia.
Then, choose your favorite item from our selection of high-quality ceramics to personalize:
With gentle Spanish guitar music playing in the background and the warm ambiance of a huerto-style creative studio, you’ll hand-paint your own ceramic piece using colors and designs inspired by Valencia’s rich artistic heritage, or create your own modern interpretation.
This is one of the most authentic cultural experiences in Valencia, perfect for families, couples, locals, and travelers seeking a meaningful activity. And you’ll leave with a beautifully painted ceramic item; a personal, handcrafted memory of Spain to take home.
You will be using acrylic paints so you may want to wear clothes that you don’t mind getting messy!
